Within one week I had not one miracle but two.

First, I got a letter from the college saying that they were sorry they made a mistake about the scholarship and they were going to double it! And second, someone—I don’t even know who—connected me with an elderly couple who were alumni of the school who wanted to meet me. They said someone was going to give me another scholarship. They invited me to lunch, and before we ate they held hands and bowed their heads and began to pray. I didn’t know what to do, so I held their hands and bowed my head. These people who didn’t even know me began to pray blessings over me. I felt such love coming from these strangers. In my loneliness God was reaching out to me and was becoming real to me. Occasionally, I began to go to some Christian meetings on campus. Someone would play the guitar and someone would read from the Bible and pray. The love I felt from these people was beginning to open my heart which had been closed to Christianity from the time I was a little boy so many years before.

One night I went outside to the park and reached my arms to the sky and I cried out to God, “I know You are out there somewhere. Who are You? Show Yourself to me. Are you Muhammad? Are You Jesus?” That night I had a powerful dream of someone being raised from the dead. The dream was really simple. A dead man was lying there very hopeless. I was looking at him and all of a sudden he stood up. It was almost scary the way he came back to life. I just thought, Wow, the man came back to life! I pondered that dream. Through this whole process, one incident at a time, God was touching my heart.

Then a friend and my roommate came to me and told me that he had become a Christian. I thought that was strange since he was already a Christian. He told me that he was Catholic, but he had just been born again. I had never heard that before. When he talked about Jesus, his eyes filled up with tears of joy. It was so real to him. His experience was so real to him that I asked him to take me to church and I started attending church with him. That Sunday, the pastor preached from Genesis chapter 1 about me being made in the image of God and that God has a special plan and purpose for each of us. He said that I would not be fulfilled until I discovered this plan. That message touched me deeply.

COMPASSION AND FORGIVENESS

One day I came home to find my roommate sitting on his bed and his eyes were bloodshot. He told me how a boyfriend had raped his sister and he wanted to go and shoot him. But he had been praying all morning and was finally able to forgive him and pray for his salvation.
